Taking the Weapon Apart. |
1. Place the blade in a vice, or grip with vice-grips near the guard with the grip facing up. |

2. Remove the pommel nut from the grip by turning it counterclockwise. For French grips, this is the base portion of the grip and may have a hole through it that will allow a small screwdriver to slide through. This screwdriver can be used for leverage. For pistol grips, the nut is inside the rear end of the grip. Depending on the type of nut, you will use an allen wrench, an outer hex wrench (available from fencing supply stores), or a flathead screwdriver. Set aside. |

3. Remove the grip by sliding off and set aside. |

4. Take wires off of the body-cord plug. The screw that holds the wire in place DOES NOT need to be completely removed. It only needs to be loosened enough to slide the wire out. If you do remove it, simply replace it once the wire is removed. |

5. Slide plug off of blade and set aside. |

6. Slide guard off and set aside. |
7. If you are going to rewire the blade, take plastic insulation covering off of the wire and save it. You will need some later, and it can be reused.
